Dress Your Bed for Fall

Whether you call it autumn or fall, this a truly wonderful time of year. A whole lot of us name it our favorite season over any other. And why not? There’s just so much to love about it.

We’re charmed by the gorgeous colors of fall foliage, the rustling and crunching sounds under our feet, and carefree kids (oh, who’re we kidding….us!) jumping into huge piles of leaves.

Autumn Trees

We enjoy watching post-season baseball, and brand-new football and hockey seasons come into full swing. We go apple-picking, corn-mazing, hay-riding and pumpkin carving. We sip hot mulled cider, hot cocoa, and pumpkin spice latte, and we savor warming soups and stews and tuck into steamy pot pie.

It may be a bit sad as we put away our light summer clothes. It’s tough to let go of all that summer sun and fun. It doesn’t take long, though, to remember why we adore our toasty cool-weather gear. About this time, fleece, flannel and wool are what we reach for as we get dressed every morning, and what we snuggle into for bed at night.

We don’t just switch out our personal wardrobes as the thermometer drops, either. One of the first signs fall is here is when we realize we’re pulling the covers up around our chin, and when we wake up feeling downright chilly in the early morning. That means it’s time to switch out the bed’s wardrobe too.

Smooth cotton sheets give way to soft flannel, and lightweight blankets to cozier, more substantial covers. Afghans, bedspreads and comforters aren’t just for making the bed in the morning when autumn arrives. Now they’re pulled over us to keep us nice and snug through the night.

There’s nothing quite like nestling into a warm, soft bed on a frosty night. Sleep experts tell us that a cooler room – somewhere in the 60s – is best for sleeping. Fall comes along and sleeping in a cooler room is suddenly easy to achieve. And one of the very best things about a chilly bedroom is getting to sink into a warm cocoon – your bed outfitted for this most wonderful season.
