If you find it as helpful as we do to fall asleep with a soothing nature or white noise soundtrack in the background, we think you’ll love this track of winter sleeping sounds. Snuggle into your warm bed and let the cozy crackling of the fireplace and the watery sounds of snow falling on a late-winter lake lull you into a beautiful sleep. Nighty-night!

It’s that spooky time of year once again, but that doesn’t mean you have to stay up all night listening for ghouls and scary creatures. In fact, autumn is often a time when we sleep particularly well. It’s all about the cooler weather, cozy jammies, cocoa before bed and a relaxing bedtime audio like this one. Enjoy! Nighty-night and spooky dreams!

Have you heard of ASMR? ASMR stands for autonomous sensory meridian response. According to Wikipedia, it provides an experience of “low-grade euphoria” that is brought on by hearing or seeing very specific (and very individual) sounds or sights. Low-grade euphoria, huh? Sign me up! While I could go on and on about this fascinating subject – and maybe I will in some future blog post – what I want to share with you today is a beautiful, calming, autumn scene. You’ll hear not only the sounds of birds singing and a breeze blowing through the fall leaves, you might also …

Is there really a month when we are most tired? A time of the year when we manage to get even less sleep than usual? And if so, would you guess that month is January? I was surprised, because I get my best sleep during the cold winter months. I’ve sung the praises of cold weather sleeping in Baby, It’s Cold Outside! a couple of years ago. I love winter sleeping! But in going a little deeper, January outperforming on tiredness levels does make some sense. In January, we are just coming off the busy – and exhausting – holiday …

I love the clear, sunny days of early summer. Everything bursts with color. Trees and lawns grow lush and green. Everywhere you look, flowers blossom in all the vibrant colors Mother Nature has to offer. Bees buzz and butterflies flutter around all that blooms. Birds sing their beautiful songs from the treetops. And there’s nothing like the feeling of warm sunshine on bare skin. Summer progresses, and it gets hot. Here in the southwest it gets really, really hot. Triple digits all summer, and over 110° is an all too common occurrence. I won’t even try to describe what 120° …

I was wondering why May is “Better Sleep Month” and not February, July or October. Is there something special about May that means we should focus more on better sleep? Does it have something to do with our struggles to adjust to Daylight Saving Time? Or that the days are getting longer and it’s light earlier in the morning and later in the evening? Or is it that the weather is getting warmer, making it more of a challenge to keep our bedrooms cool and comfortable? None of the above. May is “Better Sleep Month” because the International Sleep Products Association …

Here we are again, the morning after setting our clocks forward an hour. Last night, when you made the change before going to bed at 11:00 pm – which yesterday would have been 10:00 pm and still feels like 10:00 pm – you knew you just lost an hour. But the time when most of us really feel the loss of that hour is the next morning when the alarm goes off. At 6:00 am. Which yesterday would have been 5:00 am. And still feels like it. Groan. If you’re… (a) smart (b) chronically organized (c) able to easily fall …

Everyone thinks of “Baby It’s Cold Outside” as a Christmas song. But it’s really a winter song, when you get right down to it. And now that it’s February, right smack in the middle of winter, it seems like a good time to talk about winter and cold weather, and how they affect our sleep. Sorry to you readers in the southern hemisphere who are smack in the middle of summer right now! Maybe reading an article about cold will help you feel cooler. Nah, that never works, does it? I’ve tried it in the middle of an Arizona July, …

It’s that time of year again. Time to set our clocks back an hour as we say goodbye to the last remnants of summer and its lovely, long evenings. Why must we say goodbye? Because daylight savings time ended at 2:00 am last night, and before we went to bed we all did the biannual trek around the house, resetting every clock to conform to the agreed-upon time of our particular time zone. The old-fashioned, non “smart” clocks that don’t automatically reset themselves, that is. The old adage “spring forward, fall back” sure comes in handy when trying to remember …
